Turn-By-Turn Navigation Devices
Did you know that turn-by-turn navigation devices such
as TomTom, Garmin & Magellan use 3rd party map service
companies to provide them with their map data? Did you
know that St. Clair County is responsible for the accurate
maintenance of roads, road names & addressing data? These
3rd party map data warehouses rarely contact us
directly for our information, and this is why you may see inaccurate location of roads or wrong road names. But we are hoping to change this! We are now activly contacting these companies like TeleAtlas (owned by TomTom), in an effort to provide St. Clair County road map data to them. This way as you travel you will have the most current street level information! If you see an error, let us know as well as your navigation device manufacturer at gissupport@stclairco.com . Let us know your device type and the error that you see. Together we can make turn-by-turn navigation in St. Clair County awesome!

St. Clair County and the State of Alabama have invested in the conversion of all tax mapping to a format called Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Our county has taken this a step further to utilize this as the basis for increasing services and efficiencies for all county departments, municipalities, and commercial applications. Please see some of the following links for education options for GIS. St. Clair County GIS leaders encourage all to educate themselves on how GIS can improve the efficiencies of your organization, or municipality.
