St. Clair County has renewed their certification as a StormReady county!

St. Clair County is proud to be a

We have reached the end of the Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program (CSEPP), and the destruction of the chemical agents at the Anniston Army Depot is now complete. However, the lessons we have learned from CSEPP should never be forgotten. While the threat of the chemicals that have been stored at the Depot is gone, there are still many hazards that can affect St. Clair County for which we must be prepared.

Do you have an Emergency Alert Radio? With the closeout of the CSEPP, the inventory (which includes outdoor warning sirens) St. Clair County has acquired must be transferred to local authorities. Some municipalities may not be able to take on the expense of the sirens in their jurisdiction, which means the number of sirens in the county may be reduced. Be sure to have a working Emergency Alert Radio in your home or business to warn you of emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Make sure your radio has fresh batteries in case your power goes out.

If a disaster were to strike, would you be able to follow the St. Clair County EMA’s “72 and YOU!” rule? You should be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for at least three days (72 hours) following a disaster, because it could possibly be that long before help arrives, power is restored, or water is flowing once again. Make sure you have a Disaster Supply Kit with items that will sustain you and your family for at least three days (72 hours).

Browse our website to find more in-depth information about “72 and YOU!”, establishing an Emergency Preparedness Plan, creating a Disaster Supply Kit, and more.
